Hands up if you use broadband in your home? I mean who doesn’t right? Well my Hubby’s 95 year old Grandmother doesn’t but that is the only person I know who doesn’t. In our house we have iPads, iPhones, MacBooks, smart TV’s, sky and an xbox, and sometimes they are just about all using our broadband at the same time.
We have recently moved house, and one of the things I really looked into was the broadband available in new house. We couldn’t get fibre in our last house even though it was only a 10 minute walk into the town centre, crazy! It was so bad somedays that we would actually switch the wifi off on our phones and use 4G as it was faster.
Finding the best broadband for us
Running my blog from home, I have to make sure I always have internet access, and now we have fibre woohoo! Not only do I want the best broadband I also want the best value broadband. Sometimes that isn’t easy to find, with your first 6 months at this cost, then it goes up or an 18 or even 24 month contract that you just know your contract costs will change.
When we moved house, we were already in contract with Sky, who provide our TV, landline and broadband. So they came with us to the new house, but with fibre. What I like about Sky is I get everything included for one cost per month. However I have many friends how now just stream via Netflix or Amazon Prime, so they pay a much lower cost and then ensure they have great broadband.
I always try to make sure we are getting the best value for money, the more I save on our bills the more I have to put towards holidays. Travelling with the children is so important to us, so any saving I make make is a bonus.
Could business broadband be for us?
As I run my blog from home, I have been looking at business broadband. I have to ensure that it’s cost effective for us but is also something that is suitable for the whole family. It’s something I will look at when our contract with Sky finishes in about 6 months time. At the moment with business broadband I could get it for only £16.50 which really is value for money. I would then need to look into other options for the TV, would I cope with only Netflix and Prime? I’m not too sure to be honest. I might have to look into the simply sky TV package to go along with them.
