Things to remember before going on holiday

Whether you’re planning a short getaway in the city or making your travel dreams a reality, the last thing you want is for you to forget to do or check something and have that spoil your entire holiday. There’s a lot of things you may need to remember, so here is a short list, to ensure you’ve got all of the essentials sorted.

Check Passport Date

In addition to actually knowing where your passport is, and remembering to take it with you on your journey, you must also check its expiration date. Many countries require you to have a set amount of months left on your passport, for example, Turkey requires needs you to have six months left. Make sure this is checked before you even book your holiday, so that you don’t end up arriving at the airport, and not being allowed to fly anywhere.

Know Your Luggage Allowances

Regardless of how often you fly, you must always check the luggage allowances for your break. Different airlines have different policies in regards to how much luggage you’re allowed and how big your bags and suitcases can be, and some may have changed their policies recently, and you may not know about it. If you can’t fit everything into one case, most airlines allow you to add extra cases for a small fee, so don’t get caught out with an overweight suitcase at the airport.

Know Your Cycle

Your period can affect many aspects of your life, especially when you’re on holiday. You may not want to go swimming, partake in activities that you have planned, or may simply feel sick and have cramps the entire time, which isn’t fun in any way. If your holiday plans to fall on that week, you don’t have to endure it. You now have a solution. Period delay pills are exactly what they say on the tin, and can delay your period until after you return from your break, which can make your time away a whole lot more relaxing.

Have All Your Important Documents

There is a lot of documentation that you need to take on holiday with you, so ensure you have it all when you leave. Driving licenses, boarding passes, hotel confirmations, health insurance cards, and visas all fit into this category and should be kept together and organised, perhaps in a folder or a plastic wallet. Make a note of any important numbers and addresses too, in case they are needed for any reason. It’s always a sensible idea to have the name of your hotel, written in the language of the country you are visiting, on a piece of paper, in case you can’t find a cab driver that can speak English.

Make Sure Your Home’s Secure

The last thing that you want after a relaxing break away is to return home and realise that you have had a break in. To reduce the chance of this happening, and to make sure that your home insurance is valid if you are the victim of a break in, ensure that all of your windows and doors are properly closed and locked. You may even want to invest in security cameras or house alarms if you’re leaving for a while. It would also be a sensible idea to get a family member or a neighbour to check on the house every now and then, water the plants, and move any letters or deliveries.

Plan Your Journey To The Airport

It’s always best to know well in advance how you are getting to the airport on the morning of your departure (and how you are getting home when you return). If you are asking a friend or family member to drop you off, it’s always polite to ask them in plenty of notice, so they don’t make any plans beforehand or feel as though you’re springing it on them. If you are driving, you need to book your car parking space in advance, to ensure you don’t end up paying through the roof. For both of these, you need to leave with plenty of time to spare, in case you get stuck in traffic and end up missing your flight. If you’re traveling by train, booking well in advance is likely to get you the best prices here too.

These are some of the most important things that you need to remember before going on holiday. As long as you remember these, your holiday should be relatively stress-free, meaning that you can enjoy your trip a whole lot more.

Honeymoon in the Maldives

When someone says honeymoon, I instantly think the Maldives. I think that’s because, since being young I have always dreamt of a honeymoon in the Maldives. Unlike reality, which was a week in Devon (which was wonderful by the way).

The Maldives

The Maldives are a collection of more than a thousand coral islands. The main island of Malé is home to a busy fishing market, lots of restaurants, shops and the airport for the islands. The Maldives are famous for their beautiful beaches, blue lagoons and stunning coral reefs.

Many private islands are covered in beautiful white sand and surrounded by the clear blue ocean. Lots of the islands have their own coral reef. So there are plenty of amazing diving and snorkelling opportunities to be had. With their own personal reef, you don’t have to swim out far to find yourself submerged with marine life. Some of the best in the world.

International day of happiness. My life, My loves, My 10 reasons to be happy!

international day of happiness

The 20th March was ‘International Day of Happiness’ and the lovely Lucy at Real Mum Review asked me to take part in a 10 reasons to be happy post. Of course I was more than happy to join in the fun. I have lots of reasons to be happy, so I thought I would share them with you all.

It is a troubled world we live in, I’m always thinking about wanting something more. Bigger house, better car, new clothes, new shoes……………… so many material things. But when I sit back and think about what really makes me happy there are so many things.

♥ My wonderful Husband. I am so lucky to have a hard working Hubby. He provides for us all, so I am able to work part time and be at home as much as possible with our……

♥ Children. We are blessed to have a wonderful Son and beautiful Daughter. They are completely different in their personalities and attitudes towards life. However they brighten up lives and we are super proud of them both.

♥ My friends. I have a group of amazing friends. Some who I rarely see or hear from, but when we need each other we are a there for each other at the drop of a hat. My 2 closest friends Charlie and Becky along with my my sister have been my rock over the last few years. I love them dearly.

♥ I’m going to be an Aunty. Just before Christmas I found out my sister will be welcoming her first child in the summer. I cannot wait. I love babies and I can’t wait for cuddles with the new addition to our family. I’m excited to be part of this little ones life, just as my sister has been to my two.

♥ My Family. I came from a traditional Mum, Dad two children family. I have a wonderful Aunty, Uncle and cousins that I have remained close too even though they are now living 200 miles away. My Hubby’s family is very large, with 2 brothers, 3 step brothers and 1 step sister. Plus 2 nieces and not forgetting partners. So, family events around at the Father-in-laws is always a lively occasion. Although we don’t often see each other, when we do get together it is alway a happy event.

♥ Fresh Flowers. They make me happy, very simple. At the moment we have an abundance of beautiful daffodils in our garden. My little girl loves to pick them for me, well she loves to pick any flowers. Sometimes ones that are not even from our garden…… haha.

♥ Afternoon Tea. The Hubby and I have had a fare few afternoon tea’s in our time. Although we haven’t been for a while now. It is something we both really enjoy doing together and also with the children. Tea, tiny sandwiches and cake. I mean …… hello, who doesn’t love tea, sandwiches and cake.

international day of happiness♥ Champagne and Cocktails. I’m not sure I need to explain this but I love them both and even more when it’s a champagne cocktail. An evening out with the girls drinking a few cocktails and having fun always makes me happy.

♥ Woodland walks. We love to get out on the weekend for walk in the woods with the children and the dogs. We have 2 crazy cocker spaniels and they drive me mad, numerous times a day. However they love the children and the children love them. Taking the family out for a nice walk is always good fun for us all.

♥ My blog. Although it might be small but I think it’s beautiful and I love it.

It wouldn’t be international day of happiness without sharing some blog love. So, I’m tagging these lovelies to see what 10 things make them happy.
