Home offices often fail to live up to expectations. We all want to believe that we have the best working environment possible, but the reality is often quite different. Workspaces just seem to lack something

Home Office

The purpose of this post is to make you facepalm by showing you the things that your home office is missing. Check them out below:

Decent Lighting

Regular companies spend billions on ensuring that their employees have access to natural light. But they don’t do it out of the kindness of their hearts. Instead, they do it because it improves productivity.

Because of this, you should do the same. The more natural light you get during the day, the better you’ll feel, and the more work you’ll want to get done. The temptation to clock out early will be lower. You’ll feel passionate about what you’re doing and try to push yourself harder. Come Friday evening, you’ll have done a lot more, a productivity effect that soon adds up over the months and years.

A Wall Planner

Most corporate meeting rooms have wall planners, but the same is not true of home offices. The moment we step out of the formal office environment, we seem to forget all of the things that make it a useful and productive place to work.

Having a wall planner shows you what’s next on your itinerary. It gives you a visual reminder of what you need to prepare for and how long you have before various deadlines. It’s also a motivational tool because it never lets you forget your schedule or plans.

A Laptop Stand

You can put your laptop directly on your desk and tap away merrily for eight hours a day. But you’re missing a trick. Laptop stands make regular laptop computers a joy to use. Stands improve ergonomics so you don’t wind up with sore wrists and fingers in the evening. They also come with plenty of cable management holes and ports for connecting all your peripherals.

A Bit Of Greenery

You’ll be amazed at how much of a difference a little bit of greenery can make to your office space. A plant beside your desk or on your window sill reconnects you to nature and helps to calm your mood. You’ll notice over time that you’re able to get more done when you’re around greenery compared to when you’re not.

Some Pretty Smells

Home offices should be work-focused. But because you’re not operating under the constraints of a corporate environment, you can play around with things that you can’t normally do. For instance, you can set up a diffuser to emit beautiful scents while you work, helping you to relax and concentrate better when you’re working on spreadsheets or typing up reports

Noise-Canceling Headphones

Lastly, if you haven’t joined the noise-canceling headphone revolution yet, where have you been? With noise-canceling headphones, you can listen to your favourite work sounds/music while also blocking out the sound of screaming children or builders fixing the drain next door.
